The lanthanide or lanthanoid series comprises the fourteen elements with atomic numbers 58 through 71, from cerium to lutetium. All lanthanides are f-block elements, corresponding to the filling of the 4f electron shell. Lanthanum, which is a d-block element, may also be considered to be a lanthanide.
