Housewife is a term used to describe a married female who is not employed outside of the home. Merriam Webster describes a housewife as a married woman who is in charge of her household. Housewife is also a term first used in the 18th century to refer to sewing or mending kit where people usually kept toiletries, and is still used to describe a soldiers personal sewing kit.
